How Old.......

does a WIP have to be before it's promoted (shouldn't that be demoted) to UFO status? And once a UFO, how long before it's declared hopelessly dead?

I am, with 2 exceptions, a one at a time stitcher. In my quest to organize and clean the "room" I came across both pieces.

The design is K. Nicholaus Claus, Saint from The Cricket Collection and should look like this when completed:

Started sometime in the mid 1980's, it has the distinct honor of being my only UFO.

There's really not much left to do to complete him, so why haven't I? Perhaps I no longer have the arrogance of youth (i.e. - perfect eyesight) I had when I started it and made the decision to stitch over one on 32ct. That shouldn't be it, I do enjoy stitching over one in small doses. Maybe it's the prospect of finishing the fur lining on his jacket, in my arrogance I decided it would look so great with 2 strands of floss instead of 1, why oh why didn't I finish that portion back then? Whatever the case, I am determined to have him finished before the end of the year, I don't want to be known as the stitcher who killed Santa Claus. :)

The WIP is not nearly as old - perhaps a year, but still bugs me. I keep trying to find my way back to it but don't see that happening in the near future.

While one of my favorite SB designs, it is an older one and occasionally (usually at 3am when I should be sleeping), little glimmers of ideas pop into my head on ways to update it. Hopefully by the time I actually finish it I'll remember them, if not, I'll remember I thought it brilliant at the time!

And So It Begins.....

At last, a small start on the chest - don't gasp - this is only a primer coat. :) Not looking forward to the sanding that would have been required, I whined about it to just the right person who came up with this nifty product for me! Very ugly at the moment, but hours ahead of where I thought I'd be right now.

As much as I wanted and love this chest, I'm now cursing it daily. I realized that once it's finished I have to make space for it. And since I'm making space for it - shouldn't I go ahead and do some organizing, after all, that's why I wanted it. And while I'm at it, shouldn't this chest have newly painted walls as a background? And if the walls have to be painted, doesn't the ceiling need a fresh coat too? And while I'm up there painting, shouldn't the ceiling fan be given a good cleaning? And the closet? We'll just leave that one alone for now. There's only so much my brain can handle.....

Not much on the personal stitching front these past few weeks - I did treat myself with a scissor fob kit from Linda Driskell that has been sitting in my "to do" pile forever. Wanting a challenge I thought it was the perfect thing. It turned out nicely although if I ever stitched another I wouldn't choose the color scheme she used, I think it would be drop dead gorgeous tone on tone.

'til next time

Catching Up On Things............

The weeks since my last post have been full of many highs and lows - the storms, no power, my sister's visit and a couple of very touching surprises.....

The Storms

I had part of this typed out and lost power in the middle of it. The post has taken on a life of it's own and is very long, if you'd care to read it & see a couple of photos, please visit: The Storms

The Visit

Well, if you've read the other post you know anything and everything that could go wrong while she was here did, I don't even have a picture of her in her bridesmaid dress but do have a picture of the funky hairdo she had, took me 45 minutes to find all the bobby pins and remove them, I firmly believe the hair stylist used a full can of hairspray, maybe more.

To her, I think this was the worst insult of all, she is as far from a girly-girl as one could be. :)

I sent her home with the nickname Jinx and told her it was all her fault like a good older sister should.

All kidding aside, I felt bad for her, she had all these plans, in particular, one frozen custard shop that she loves but didn't get to have because they had lost their power also. She held up like a trooper given the circumstances, hopefully the next visit will go much better and she'll be able to bring my nephew with her.

The Surprises

Last spring I organized an exchange on the SBBB Board and while I felt like I was floundering and making a mess of things most of the time, the end result was meeting several ladies I'm glad to be able to call friend.

One was unfortunately diagnosed with the same chronic illness as I have right after the exchange ended, we shared some e-mails back and forth.

I received a very thoughtful and unexpected package from this sweetheart of a lady right before the storms, everything in it seemed tailor made just for me.

I've been looking for a cart like Vero had on her blog at one time with no success for awhile now. I had asked my brother to be on the lookout for me, he in turn called my mom and told her to do the same, she located a similar one at Hobby Lobby, he surprised me with it last weekend.

Some of you will probably be shocked when you see the end result, it's beautiful as is but just doesn't "go". :)

And finally, I received another unexpected package this week from a lovely lady also met through the board during the exchange with a couple of Lorri Birmingham kits not yet in my stash.

A long term member of several boards but still a lurker, I'm glad I poked my head out for a short time. The kindness and generosity of the people I've met astound me.

Needless to say, I am once again hopelessly behind but will try to update here before yet another month passes by.

Debs, Katrina, Chrissie, Anita and Kath, thanks so much for dropping by and for your kind comments, I visit your blogs regularly and love seeing your finishes!
